Coughlin Taps Pintor Marin to Serve as First Woman to Helm Assembly Budget Committee in More than 30 Years
Assembly Speaker-Elect Craig J. Coughlin has tapped Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin to helm the Assembly Budget Committee when the 218th Legislature convenes in January.
Pintor Marin, 37, will become only the second woman to serve in this capacity since Assemblywoman Barbara Kalik chaired what was then known as the Assembly Revenue, Finance and Appropriations Committee in 1985.
"Assemblywoman Pintor Marin has served our Budget Committee with distinction and proven to be extremely adept on fiscal issues during her tenure in the Assembly," said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). "She will be a tremendous asset as we begin a new era fighting for budget priorities that protect New Jersey's working and middle-class families alongside an administration that values these priorities as well. I have great confidence that she will steer this committee proudly."
Pintor Marin has been a member of the Assembly Budget Committee for the past four years. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee and as a member of the Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, positions she will now give up to helm the Budget Committee.
"It is a great honor and privilege to help lead the Assembly in this capacity," said Pintor Marin (D-Essex)). "I know the struggles that working families in this state face as the cost of living rises and wages fail to keep pace. As Budget Chair, I'm looking forward to serving as a champion and steward of their needs, while fighting to maximize and protect every taxpayer dollar."
Pintor Marin has been a member of the Assembly since 2013, representing the 29th legislative district, which covers parts of Essex County.
