Pinkin on State Environmental Lawsuits Announced by AG, DEP
(TRENTON) - Assembly Environment Chair Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement on Wednesday's announcement by the Attorney General and the Department of Environmental Protection of multiple civil enforcement actions aiming to clean up contaminated properties:
"I'm pleased to see New Jersey back in the 'environmental enforcement business.' Seeking Natural Resource Damages for the environmental harm caused to New Jersey's communities and holding companies accountable for taxpayer money spent to fix contamination is absolutely necessary. By doing this, we make sure it is known that protecting public health and ridding our state of pollution are New Jersey's top priorities.
"This is good news for the state and will propel us forward once again as a leader among leaders working to strengthen environment protections and combatting pollutants that contribute to global warming and climate change.
"Eight years without taking this type of legal action and fighting for residents is eight years way too long, especially for communities directly affected by these sites."
