Wimberly on Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee Mold, Lead and Environment Safety Hearing

Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly (D-Bergen/Passaic) issued the following statement on today's Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee hearing at Camden County Community College:

"Today, the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee heard from experts on mold, lead and environment safety in New Jersey.

"The connection between health and housing is an important one. Our committee and those who testified had an honest and informative conversation about the health concerns on this large, diverse issue New Jersey families face.

"Being that lead based paint was only banned in New Jersey in 1978 and mold is such a complex problem with varying effects on everyone, for example -- one of the top priorities of mine as well as the Housing and Community Development Committee is to create regulations in regards to mold and lead when it comes to homes in order to ensure that we are properly protecting the health of our families.

"We will continue to have hearings such as this throughout the state as we work locally with our residents to make sure all houses in New Jersey are healthy and safe places to live."
