Chairwoman Downey Statement on Deadly Viral Outbreak at NJ Healthcare Facility
(TRENTON) – Assembly Human Services Committee Chairwoman Joann Downey (D-Monmouth) issued the following statement on the adenovirus outbreak which has taken the lives of seven children at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell:
“I am at a loss for words for the tragedy still taking place in Passaic County.
“The Department of Health must figure out a way to resolve this horrifying problem before even more lives are lost.
“This is a matter that must be thoroughly investigated in order to ascertain how and why this outbreak emerged.
“My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to those sweet children and their families who are suffering from indescribable heartbreak of which I can’t even imagine.
“We will get to the bottom of this, and we must, and we will, do everything in our power to prevent the loss of more lives.”
