SPEAKER OLIVER ANNOUNCES ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE LEADERS & ASSEMBLY DEM COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS (TRENTON) -- Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex) today announced the leaders and the Assembly Democratic committee assignments for the General Assembly's 23 committees in the 2010-11 legislative session. "These Assembly committee chairs and committee members are a talented group of leaders with the expertise needed to represent New Jersey well as we push forward on our plans to create jobs, reinvigorate New Jersey's economy and combat property taxes," Oliver said. "They will work hard and get the job done for all New Jerseyans." Two new committees have been created. Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Cumberland/Salem) will lead the new Assembly Regulated Oversight and Gaming Committee, which Oliver has assigned with working to ease burdensome business regulations. "We know we can do better when it comes to the piles of rules and regulations that our businesses have been buried under over the years," Burzichelli said. "However well-intentioned these regulations have been, clearly they're not creating an optimal business environment. We've heard this concern from our businesses and we're going to do something about it." Assemblyman Matt Milam (D-Cumberland/Cape May/Atlantic) will chair the new Assembly Tourism and Arts Committee. "Tourism and arts go hand-in-hand, and both of these industries, each vital to our economic well-being, are facing tough times, so we'll work to make sure they're positioned to succeed" Milam said. "From ensuring shore communities remain tourist destinations to ensuring our arts community remains first class, we have a lot of work to do and, quite simply, we're going to do it."
