Prieto: Assembly to Hold 3 Public Hearings on Christie Budget Plan

Seeks Public Input Amid 20 Percent Net Property Tax Hike Under Christie
Assembly Budget Chairman Vincent Prieto on Tuesday announced the Assembly will convene three public hearings on Gov. Christie's proposed budget plan in each region of the state.

"With New Jerseyans having been dealt a net 20 percent property tax increase under Gov. Christie, it's more important than ever to hear what residents need to see in their state spending plan," said Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen). "New Jerseyans are struggling daily to keep their homes, educate their children and afford quality health care. We need their input as move forward, and we will stay at each and every hearing until everyone who wants to speak is heard."

The hearings are slated for:
  • Wednesday, March 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the State House Annex., Fourth Floor, Committee Room 11 in Trenton. Topics - Health, Human Services, Senior, Family and Children's Issues.
  • Wednesday, March 14 at 9:30 a.m. at The Dental School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, 50 12th Ave. in Newark. Topics - Education, Higher Education and Local Government Issues.
  • Tuesday, March 20 at 9:30 a.m. at a southern New Jersey site to be determined. Topics - Public Safety, Economic Development, Transportation, Environment, Arts, History and Cultural Issues and all other subjects.
Persons wishing to testify are encouraged to register online at www.njleg.state.nj.us and next to "Budget Hearings," click online registration or call the Legislative Budget and Finance Office at (609) 847-3105 to register by phone. Those presenting written testimony are asked to provide 20 copies on the day of the hearing.
