Wisniewski: Waiting Out the Clock Not an Option for Port Authority
Resolution Renewing Assembly Transportation Committee's Subpoena Powers Prevents Agency from Withholding Answers via Delay Tactics(TRENTON) -- Assembly Deputy Speaker John S. Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement Thursday after the Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee, which Wisniewski chairs, had its power to compel documents and testimony from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey via subpoena extended through the end of the 215th Legislature (January 2014):
"If the Port Authority's plan was to simply run out the clock, they're going to have to reconsider their tactics.
"We're not going away.
"We're not giving up.
"We're not going allow the Port Authority to continue to operate with no oversight, like its own private fiefdom.
"We will continue to use every tool available to us to compel a public accounting of where and how billions of commuter dollars are spent.
"And we will expect them in a timely fashion.
"Only when we have all the facts from the Port Authority will we be able to begin the real work of ensuring that the agency is putting the best interests of New Jersey and New York commuters first."
