Gusciora Applauds Announcement of Joint Anti-Gun Initiative for Trenton
Assemblyman Urges Continued Cooperation to Take Back Capital City's StreetsAssemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) applauded the joint anti-gun initiative announced on Thursday by the State Attorney General's Office particularly in light of the recent violent crime wave in Trenton, including today's shooting of two veteran police officers.
"This coordinated initiative is both welcome and timely, especially in light of this morning's disturbing events. Our thoughts and well wishes for a speedy recovery go out to the police officers wounded in the line of duty today.
"In a year that has already seen more than 150 shootings and is poised to see a record number of homicides, clearly more needs to be done to combat crime in Trenton.
"This morning's events underscore the need to heighten our efforts and take back our streets. Enough is enough. We're at a breaking point here. Law abiding citizens should not have to fear leaving their homes and our dedicated police officers should not have to risk their life every time they respond to a call.
"The city, state and county need to prioritize the goal of restoring full policing levels for the safety of capital city residents and visitors. We must allocate whatever resources we can to put an end to this disturbing trend and send a clear message that we're not going to tolerate the continued proliferation of gun violence on our streets," said Gusciora.
