The Assembly Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee is responsible for monitoring issues that affect parks, farmland preservation, water resources and the growing agricultural industry.

The Appropriations Committee is responsible for reviewing the fiscal impact of legislation on the state. The committee reviews legislation dealing with revenues, taxation, state budget and finance and weigh in on the process of authorizing expenditure of public funds for a specific governmental purpose.

The Assembly Budget Committee reviews the Governor’s proposed budget plan and crafts the Legislature’s appropriations bill, the state’s annual fiscal spending law.

The Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee is responsible for issues that affect urban enterprise zones, state and local redevelopment projects, corporate tax incentives, and business grant programs.

The Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee is charged with protecting consumer rights in New Jersey, particularly issues such as safeguarding against identity theft, restricting telemarketing, and protecting cell phone and calling card consumers against fraud.

The Assembly Education Committee addresses issues concerning education curricula, school finance, school boards and districts, school transportation, students, teachers, tuition and student aid, vocational and higher education.


The Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee is responsible for issues such as banking, finance, trusts and estates, auto insurance, liability insurance, life insurance, product liability, property insurance, and tort reform.

The Health and Senior Services Committee is responsible for the oversight of health care policy. Its focus is legislation that works to prevent disease, promote well-being at all life stages and encourage informed choices that enrich the quality of life for residents and communities.

The Assembly Higher Education committee handles issues that relate directly to the state’s 31 public colleges and universities including 19 county and community colleges. The committee will assist in directing policy relating to tuition aid and scholarship programs, such as the popular NJ STARS and the newly-enacted NJ STARS II, and ensuring the success of inter-institutional agreements entered into by schools.

The Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee is responsible for monitoring the protection of citizens of the State of New Jersey. The panel oversees issues affecting counter-terrorism, risk assessments, infrastructure protections, emergency communications, border security and cyber security.

The Assembly Housing and Local Government Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with municipalities, counties, local finance, local public contracts, property taxes, local authorities, housing, land use, zoning and planning.

The Human Services Committee handles issues concerning the status of women, the welfare of children and ways to foster the growth of families.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee oversees legislation dealing with capital punishment, civil justice, civil rights, court administration, crime and punishment, juvenile justice, criminal justice and the overall judicial system.

The Labor Committee is the panel that oversees legislation regarding unemployment, workers’ compensation and disability benefits, workplace safety, employee training programs, family leave, and the minimum wage.

The Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with police, fire and emergency management services, public safety regulations, criminalization of activities and legal ramifications of crimes.

The Assembly Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee is responsible for monitoring all segments of state military preparedness, the National Guard and issues that pertain to veterans and their service.

The Regulated Professions Committee is responsible for monitoring, updating and amending laws dealing with licensed professions, such as architects or electricians.


The Assembly State Government Committee focuses on policy and legislation that has a direct impact on state government, as well as legislation dealing with ethics, pensions, election related issues and public employees.

The Telecommunications and Utilities Committee is responsible for monitoring all segments of the telecommunications and utilities industry in New Jersey. The panel oversees issues affecting cable television, the Internet, public utilities, telecommunications technologies, and the energy industry.


The Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee is responsible for monitoring all segments of state transportation, including bridge and highway construction, motor vehicle inspections, expansion of light-rail train systems, and management of the toll road authorities.
