Responsiblities
An Associate General Counsel works closely with the General Counsel to analyze the legal implications of proposed legislation and advise members of the Assembly Democratic Caucus on legal issues.
Mrs. Azam serves as the Democratic Aide to the Assembly Health and Senior Services and Environment and Solid Waste committees.
Background
Mishael Azam grew up in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
While attending law school at Boston University, Mrs. Azam participated in the Legislation Clinic as a bill drafter, editor, project manager and editor-in-chief. She also served as president of the South Asian American Law Students Association.
Mrs. Azam's past experience includes working for two of Philadelphia’s largest law firms -- as a paralegal at Dechert, LLP and as a contract attorney at Pepper Hamilton, LLP. She also was a legal intern in the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
Most recently, Mrs. Azam worked as an Associate Counsel at the New Jersey Office of Legislative Services, where she served in the Revenue and Local Government sections.
Education
Mrs. Azam graduated with honors from Rutgers College and obtained her law degree from Boston University School of Law.
Mrs. Azam is admitted to the bar in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
