Responsiblities
An Associate General Counsel works closely with the General Counsel to analyze the legal implications of proposed legislation and advise members of the Assembly Democratic Caucus on legal issues.
Mr. Fletcher serves as the Democratic Aide to the Assembly Consumer Affairs, Housing and Local Government and State Government committees.
Background
Owen Fletcher was born in Newark and raised in Union County.
While attending law school, Mr. Fletcher served as a summer intern with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, a law clerk with the Union County Counsel’s Office’s Division of Social Services and a legal intern with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
After law school, Mr. Fletcher served as a law clerk to a Criminal Division Superior Court judge in Essex County. He joined the Assembly Majority Office in 2008 after working as a legislative aide for Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Jerry Green.
Mr. Fletcher is a member of the Union County Democratic Committee and is a Ward Leader in the City of Plainfield. He also serves on the Plainfield Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.
Education
Mr. Fletcher holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University and obtained his law degree from Rutgers School of Law, Newark.
Mr. Fletcher is admitted to the bar in New Jersey.
