***MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE*** THE NEW JERSEY GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2011 CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH

(TRENTON) — Assembly Democrats issued a multimedia package Tuesday commemorating the New Jersey General Assembly’s 2011 celebration of Black History Month – a time to reflect and remember the individuals and groups that have contributed to the betterment or advancement of African Americans both in New Jersey and throughout the nation.

This year’s celebration honored and featured the following individuals and groups:

  • Pastor Eric Butler of the True Vine Christian Center in Fair Lawn;
  • Bungo’s Rhythms, a traditional African folk music drum band;
  • Kevin Maynor, a world renown bass vocalist;
  • Dr. Thelma C. Hurd, a retired principal from Elizabeth with over 50 years of service in the Elizabeth school district; and
  • The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., celebrating 100 years of incorporation.
