***MEDIA ADVISORY – MONDAY*** WINTER IS COMING TO THE GARDEN STATE: ASSEMBLY TO HONOR FANTASY AUTHOR GEORGE R. R. MARTIN

(TRENTON) — On Monday, the New Jersey General Assembly will honor Bayonne native and #1 New York Times bestselling author George R. R. Martin.

The General Assembly voting session is scheduled to begin 1 p.m., Monday, December 5, in the Assembly Chambers, the State House, Trenton.

The voting session will be streamed live here.

Called “the American Tolkien” in 2005 by Time magazine, Martin is best known for his epic fantasy opus A Song of Ice and Fire — an ongoing saga currently encompassing five novels, with seven expected — the first of which, A Game of Thrones, has been optioned into a successful live-action drama by HBO.

Martin’s latest book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, sold 298,000 copies on the first day of its release.

In addition to his great success as an author Martin has also worked in television, serving as a story editor for the Twilight Zone and as an executive story consultant for CBS’s Beauty and the Beast.
