GUSCIORA: THE TIME IS NOW, THE SUPPORT IS THERE

Assemblyman Cites New Quinnipiac Poll as Growing Evidence for Marriage Equality Support

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Mercer) on Thursday said that the time is now for the democratically-led effort to bring true equality for same sex couples to the Garden State, pointing to the latest Quinnipiac University poll which shows that a majority of New Jerseyans support marriage equality.

“The evidence continues to grow. Numerous national polls have shown a growing majority of Americans support marriage equality. An Eagleton poll in the fall confirmed this fact for New Jerseyans and now, for the first time, a Quinnipiac poll also shows that a majority of our residents support equality for all couples in New Jersey.

“More telling is that an even greater majority agree that same-sex marriage is not a threat to traditional marriage. This falls in line with what we’ve been saying all along – not a single heterosexual marriage would be affected by this law, but to same-sex couples, the right to basic equality, fairness and dignity will make all the difference.

“The time is now and the support is there. We should, we can, and we must get this done,” said Gusciora.

The poll, released today, shows that a majority of New Jerseyans support same-sex marriage by a margin of 52-42 percent. Additionally, 65 percent of respondents feel that same-sex marriage is not a threat to traditional marriage.
