(TRENTON) – Assembly Environment Chairwoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) released the following statement on Thursday following the release of New Jersey Environmental Federation’s report card on Gov. Christie’s environmental record, which gave the governor a D:
“It’s disappointing, but not surprising that the governor would receive such a poor grade for his environmental record, considering the continual war he’s waged on the environment since taking office. The governor earned D’s on clean water, open space, energy, appointments and environmental values. He earned his worst grade on climate change, for not only reneging on his promise to aggressively implement the 2008 Energy Master Plan and 2007 Global Warming Response Act, but actually weakening them.
“The governor continuously makes decisions that threaten the quality of life of the very people he’s supposed to represent, and his record on the environment is no exception. He withdrew from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, raided clean energy funding and threatened the water quality of the Highlands with little regard to the implications these actions may have on future generations.
“This is more evidence that the governor’s policies have less to do with the people of New Jersey, than with his national reputation. Sadly, this report card is just the latest example.”
