Pinkin Statement on New Jersey’s Progress in Rejoining RGGI

(TRENTON) – Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee Chairperson Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) Monday issued the following statement on the Department of Environmental Protection’s move to formally propose rules to actualize New Jersey’s re-entry into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI):

“New Jersey is making significant progress on rejoining our neighbors in a commitment to greatly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and fight to reverse the effects of climate change.

“By rejoining RGGI, we will bring together the Northeastern Seaboard, stretching from the northern tip of Maine to Delaware, and eventually all the way to Virginia, to create a safer, healthier environment for all of our residents to enjoy.

“We are at a crisis point when it comes to the devastation of our planet, and rejoining RGGI and abiding by its principles is imperative if we are to leave an inhabitable New Jersey for future generations.

“New Jersey should have never left RGGI to begin with, and I applaud Governor Murphy in his efforts to right this wrong from the previous administration.

“The future of sustainable energy is bright in New Jersey, and I am excited for us to take the steps necessary to become a national environmental leader.”
