Houghtaling, Verrelli & Taliaferro on Approval of their Bill to Encourage Farmland Preservation
Legislation Signed into Law by the Governor
(TRENTON) - In response to Governor Phil Murphy's recent signing of legislation (A-4735) sponsored by Assemblymen Eric Houghtaling, Anthony Verrelli and Adam Taliaferro to appropriate $1,591,000 from constitutionally dedicated corporate business tax (CBT) revenues to the State Agriculture Development Committee for Grants to certain nonprofits for farmland preservation, the Assemblymen released the following statements:
Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling (D-Monmouth): "Nonprofits protect and enhance New Jersey's beautiful farmlands every day. By supporting the work of these organizations, we ensure our agricultural industry can continue to grow and flourish in the future."
Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (D-Mercer/Hunterdon): "New Jersey is the Garden State for a reason; our farmlands are simply unmatched across the nation. The nonprofits that work to keep New Jersey's farmlands in pristine condition are absolutely essential, and we must do all we can to support their efforts."
Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro (D-Gloucester/Cumberland/Salem): "With funding, nonprofit groups will be able to buy and develop lands for farmers to grow food that will one day reach the dinner tables of residents across the state. I'm proud of New Jersey's agricultural industry, and look forward to seeing this law benefit farmers and residents alike."
