Conaway, Jimenez Release Statement on Bill to Amend "Health Care Quality Act"
Measure Would Delete Prior Authorization Requirements by Certain Insurers for Accessing Certain Health Insurance Services
As part of an ongoing effort to develop solutions that produce better patient outcomes, streamline the health care delivery process, and maximize health care dollars, Assemblyman Herb Conaway, MD, Jr., (D-Burlington), chair, Assemblyman Health and Senior Services Committee, and Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-Bergen, Hudson) released the following statement Tuesday regarding a bill that would amend the "Health Care Quality Act."
The bill (A-3176) cleared the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee Monday and would prohibit certain health insurance carriers from requiring prior authorization for accessing physical, occupational, and speech therapy services; prescription drugs and biologics; radiological examinations; durable medical equipment; and surgical services that address a single organ or organ system:
"The primary intention of this bill is to limit the types of prior authorizations required for medical care. By streamlining the approval process, the patient health care experience would be positively enhanced as a result of their receiving timely, appropriate care with minimal disruptions."
