McKeon Statement on Attorney Generalís Pursuit of Environmental Justice
After hearing testimony from New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal at today's Assembly Budget Committee hearing, Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris) released the following statement:
"In the past 14 months since Attorney General Grewal took office, New Jersey has prosecuted nine cases related to polluters and environmental justice. That's a far cry from the Christie administration, under which a grand total of zero cases were filed. For no good reason, eight years went by without the state filing any claims of oil spills, pollution, or other environmental concerns. Surely these issues were going on, but not once did the Christie administration protect the State's rights against polluters.
"Our environment plays a tremendous role in our health, quality of life and our children's futures. The importance of a healthy, sustainable environment cannot be understated, particularly as we work to combat the human influence on climate change. I commend Attorney General Grewal and his office for making environmental justice a priority. These efforts will make New Jersey a cleaner, greener, and healthier place to live for all residents."
