(TRENTON) – Legislation sponsored by Assembly members Nelson Albano, Matthew W. Milam, John Burzichelli and Celeste Riley to help protect farmers from faulty equipment continues advancing.
The bill (A-3468) extends the protections of the state’s vehicle lemon law to new motor vehicle farm equipment purchased or leased in New Jersey.
It was recently approved 76-0 by the Assembly and referred to the Senate Commerce Committee.
“Farming is vital industry for New Jersey, but it’s one struggling against a tough economy and encroaching development,” said Albano (D-Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland). “Anything we can do to help protect farmers from extra costs is a good thing.”
“Faming is New Jersey’s heritage, but it’s a difficult profession,” said Milam (D-Atlantic/Cape May/Cumberland). “Unforeseen costs from a faulty farm vehicle can be enough to devastate some farmers, so this is simply the right thing to do.”
“Farmers deserve the same protections as consumers when it comes to buying or leasing farm equipment,” said Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “Consumers are protected financially if they’re vehicles turn out to be a lemon, and farmers should get the same consideration.”
“Farms create jobs and economic development for our state, while preserving valued open space,” said Riley (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland). “If we want to help ensure their continued existence in our state, we need to make sure farmers have the same rights as other consumers when it comes to basic things like vehicle purchases.”
