Andrzejczak & Mazzeo Oppose New Proposal to Open Atlantic Ocean up to Oil Drilling

Assemblymen Bob Andrzejczak and Vince Mazzeo on Wednesday expressed their opposition to the federal government’s latest proposal that could pave the way for oil drilling off parts of the Atlantic coast.

“Our eco-system and our economy are intrinsically tied to the Atlantic Ocean. Opening it up to drilling would threaten the way of life both in New Jersey and up and down the eastern seaboard. Allowing drilling in the Atlantic Ocean while protecting the coast of Alaska also sends the message that we value some natural resources over others,” said Andrzejczak (D-Cape May/Atlantic/ Cumberland).

“The Deepwater Horizon oil spill was a tragic illustration of the wide-reaching and long-lasting consequences of opening up our oceans to drilling. Congress has not passed any new laws since then to help prevent future environmental disasters. Opening up the Atlantic to drilling could jeopardize our tourism and fishing industries, countless livelihoods and our vast ecosystem,” said Mazzeo (D-Atlantic).
