Armato and Mazzeo Applaud Moratorium on Evictions and Utility Shut-offs During COVID-19 Outbreak

TRENTON) – In response to the statewide moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, and efforts by utility providers to suspend gas, electric and water service shut-offs during the COVID-19 pandemic, Assemblymen John Armato and Vince Mazzeo (both D-Atlantic) released the following statements:

Assemblyman Armato: “At a time when everyone is asked to stay at home in the interest of public health, there’s no reason we should remove people from their living situations. There’s not one person in New Jersey who isn’t experiencing some kind of hardship related to COVID-19. Now is not the time to place a larger burden on families who are already struggling.”

Assemblyman Mazzeo: “I am proud to see New Jersey taking steps to keep residents in their homes and ensure they have access to basic necessities during this difficult time. Our next step should be to open up a conversation at the federal level to explore options for moratorium on mortgages. As our economic future becomes more uncertain, we have to explore every opportunity to ease the financial burden on our hardworking residents.”
