ASSEMBLY BUDGET COMMITTEE UNVEILS WEDNESDAY JOB CREATION AGENDA

(TRENTON) – The Assembly Budget Committee on Wednesday will begin advancing the Legislature’s “Back to Work NJ” economic development package by moving a series of bills geared toward creating jobs, increasing job opportunities and improving job skills.
The hearing is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8 in Committee Room 11 in the State House Annex. It will be streamed live at http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/live_audio.asp.
Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) and Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) announced the job-creation and pro-business agenda at a State House press conference on Nov. 24. Wednesday’s hearing will be the first of several to advance initiatives.
“This innovative and creative approach will help working class New Jerseyans and the businesses that employ them with targeted and productive tax cuts and incentives that will grow jobs and stimulate the economy,” said Assembly Budget Chairman Lou Greenwald (D-Camden).
Wednesday’s bills include:
· Legislation (A-3584) to create the “Back to Work NJ Program to help stimulate job growth by allowing unemployed New Jerseyans to receive workplace training from a potential employer. It’s sponsored by Oliver.
· Legislation (A-3513) to create a loan forgiveness program for students who pursue a field that has a marked labor shortage. It’s sponsored by Oliver and Greenwald.
· Legislation (A-3353) to establish a closing fund to give financial assistance to business and industry projects that would significantly benefit the state but require additional reDests as an inducement to locate or remain in the state. It’s sponsored by sponsored by Albert Coutinho (D-Essex), Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer), Angel Fuentes (D-Camden/Gloucester) and Pam Lampitt (D-Camden).
· Legislation (A-3418) sponsored by Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) and Lampitt to allow corporation business tax credits and gross income tax credits for certain wages paid to qualified interns in tax years 2012 and 2013.
· Legislation to permit small, women or minority owned businesses located in designated regional centers to qualify for loans from the Economic Development Authority. It’s sponsored by Watson Coleman.
· Legislation (A-3494) to allow unemployment insurance beneficiaries to file, reopen, cancel or close claims online. It’s sponsored by Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer/Middlesex), Celeste Riley (D-Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem), Peter J. Barnes III (D-Middlesex), Connie Wagner (D-Bergen), Nellie Pou (D-Passaic/Bergen) and Linda Greenstein (D-Middlesex/Mercer)
· Legislation (A-2859) to authorize the sale and lease of vacant public property for gardening and urban farming. It’s sponsored by Annette Quijano (D-Union), John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland), Riley and Elease Evans (D-Passaic/Bergen).
· Legislation to allow certain child support obligors in arrears to apply for certain professional and occupational licenses provided that applicant has made 12 consecutive timely child support payments. It’s sponsored by L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) and Coutinho.
