In response to the passing of Shirley Rice, wife of State Senator Ron Rice, his Assembly legislative district mates Cleopatra Tucker and Ralph Caputo (both D-Essex) issued the following joint statement:
“Shirley Rice was an amazing woman and mother who cared for her family dearly. As a longtime educator in the City of Newark, she also cared for and adored the students she taught. Shirley leaves behind an incredible legacy of impact and service to community. She was well respected, not only in the City of Newark, but throughout Essex County.
“We will cherish all the beloved memories we have of her and what she’s done. Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to Ron, her children and the rest of their family during this difficult time. She will truly be missed but remembered by those who knew and loved her.”
