Assemblywoman Muoio Demands NJDOT Take Action to Improve Safety on Rt. 129 in Trenton

Asks for a Public Hearing in the Community after Latest Fatal Crash on Monday

Assemblywoman Elizabeth Maher Muoio (D-Mercer/Hunterdon) is calling on the New Jersey Department of Transportation to take immediate action to improve the safety of Rt. 129 in Trenton, where a crossing guard was struck and killed Monday.

“This fatal accident is just the latest in a number of tragic accidents that have occurred on a stretch of Rt. 129 that includes both the Cass Street and Hamilton Avenue intersections,” said Muoio.

In a letter to NJDOT Commissioner Richard T. Hammer, Muoio asked for an inventory of all accidents and traffic studies completed on the corridor in the past 10 years, and requested NJDOT to conduct a public hearing in the community to address safety concerns and seek input from area residents.

“The Cass Street intersection is a heavily used intersection by the neighborhood, including students and seniors, and the Hamilton Avenue intersection is utilized by residents and visitors to the Sun National Bank Center Arena. We need to do more to ensure the safety of Trentonians as well as those visiting the city,” said Muoio.
