Benson Bill to Expand Use of Subscription Vehicles Passes Assembly

(TRENTON) – Aiming to help drivers in need of flexible transportation options, legislation (A-1366) to allow qualified motor vehicle dealers to designate any car in their inventory as a subscription vehicle was approved Thursday by the full Assembly, 79-0.
Drivers who sign up for a car subscription would pay to use the car for a monthly fee, which also typically covers insurance, roadside assistance and maintenance. Subscribers would not own the car.
The bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman Daniel Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex), chair of the Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee, released the following statement:

“Not every driver is interested in buying or leasing a car for the long term. Subscription vehicles offer a more flexible option for drivers not looking to make a lengthy commitment, while still providing access to important benefits like insurance. It’s time we make this option more accessible for New Jersey drivers.”
