‘It’s A Ruff Life’ Rescue Charity Fundraiser Gala on Friday, February 16th In Hamilton

(HAMILTON) – Assemblyman Daniel Benson will be honored on Friday as the “2017 Humane Legislator of the Year” by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Benson will be presented the award at the It’s a Ruff Life Rescue charity fundraiser gala on Friday, February 16th in Hamilton.

“I am honored to be this year’s recipient of the Humane Legislator of the Year award,” said Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex). “The Humane Society has done remarkable work in New Jersey to help strengthen our animal welfare laws over the years. It’s been a pleasure working with them to ensure proper reform and the protection of animals.”

The HSUS, the country’s largest and most effective animal protection organization, recognizes state legislators around the nation each year who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to advancing legislation to better protect animals.

Benson has championed many pieces of animal welfare legislation, including measures addressing puppy mill cruelty and reforming how animal cruelty law is properly enforced in our state.

“Assemblyman Benson has been a fearless leader for animal welfare legislation in the NJ General Assembly,” said Brian R. Hackett, the NJ state director for HSUS. “We are profoundly grateful for the Assemblyman’s strong advocacy for the cause of animal protection in New Jersey, which has no doubt contributed to the fact that our state ranks in the top 10 best states for animal protection policies.”

“We thank the Assemblyman for his consistent pro-animal voting record and for being a model for other legislators to advance our bipartisan mission of protecting the animals in our society who can’t speak for themselves. We also thank the office staff for their hard work,” added Hackett.
