Benson on Fiscal Year 2020 State Budget Proposal Presented by Legislative Democrats

(Trenton) – The Assembly Budget Committee approved a Fiscal Year 2020 spending plan bill proposed by Legislative Democrats Monday. Committee member, Assemblyman Dan Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex) released the following statement:

“The budget bill our committee cleared today provides a blueprint for getting New Jersey’s fiscal house in order. It provides property tax relief, a record pension payment, a $1.4 billion surplus and more money for education, veterans and seniors.

“As chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, I am particularly pleased we were able to include a $75 million funding increase for NJ Transit which is $50 million more than proposed in the Governor’s budget.

“Our budget also fully funds the Senior Freeze Property Tax Relief Program for the first time in a decade with an $18 million increase.

“I stand behind this spending plan because it is fair, responsible and protects our most vulnerable.”
