Vows Commitment to Critical Issues Facing New Jersey & the 14th Legislative District
Hamilton resident Daniel R. Benson on Monday was sworn in as the newest member of the New Jersey General Assembly.
Benson will represent the 14th Legislative District, which includes Cranbury, Hamilton, Jamesburg, Monroe, Plainsboro, South Brunswick and West Windsor. He was selected this past weekend to fill the seat vacated by Linda Greenstein who was elected to the state Senate in November.
“It is my distinct pleasure to welcome Dan Benson as the newest member of the New Jersey General Assembly,” said Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic), who delivered the oath to Benson. “Assemblyman Benson is a bright individual with an extraordinary dedication to public service who will represent his constituents with the utmost integrity and commitment.”
Benson, 35, holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Physics and Government from Georgetown University and a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Rutgers University’s Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
“I am extremely pleased and honored to be able to represent the residents of the 14th legislative district in the General Assembly,” Benson said. “With all the pressing issues we are currently faced with, I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and helping my colleagues find productive solutions that will ease the burdens on everyday New Jerseyans.”
At age 25, Benson became the youngest elected councilman in Hamilton’s history. He also served as a Mercer County Freeholder from 2008 until recently. Benson has more than 10 years of experience in public policy and regulatory affairs for both the public and private sector and currently works as a consultant in the energy and telecommunications policy field.
“I have always been a firm believer in giving back to the community and our state as a whole,” Benson said. “With our unemployment rate still alarmingly high, and job prospects relatively low, I am looking forward to being a part of the legislative effort underway right now to stimulate the economy and put people back to work.”
He joins Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo (D-Mercer/Middlesex) in representing the 14th Legislative District in the Assembly.
Oliver said she expects to soon announce committee assignments for Benson.
