Burzichelli Hails Success of His Bow Hunting Bills

(3rd LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) released the following statement Wednesday on the success of his laws to authorize deer hunting with bow and arrow on Sundays and change the perimeter for bow and arrow hunting:

“I was pleased to see the reports from the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance on the positive deer management results following the enactment of Sunday bow hunting.
“In 2009 and 2010, the bow harvest on Sunday was 14 percent of the total bow harvest, and we saw an increase of 3,543 animals harvested between these years without an increase in law enforcement related issues.
“It seems as though these laws are working as intended and improving our stewardship of the environment. But the laws even helped to increase bow license sales by 5 percent, which is of course revenue used by the Division of Fish and Wildlife to manage our natural reDests, so it’s proven fiscally responsible as well.
“The success of these laws is good news for New Jersey’s environment and budget.”
