BURZICHELLI STATEMENT ON COURT WIN FOR TAXPAYERS

(TRENTON) — Assemblyman John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) released the following statement Thursday after a state Superior Court judge in Morris County upheld the law Burzichelli sponsored requiring 60 percent voter approval of school budget items that exceed the state’s mandated tax levy cap:

“This ruling is a welcome news and a victory for beleaguered property taxpayers throughout New Jersey.

“No one doubts that property taxes remain a problem, but this law at least helped stem the tide and put the onus on school officials to really make their case if they want to spend money above and beyond the cap. I’m glad to see it upheld.”
