Burzichelli Welcomes Legalized Sports Gaming to New Jersey

(TRENTON) – Assembly Deputy Speaker John Burzichelli (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland), a longtime advocate for legalized sports gaming in New Jersey, released the following statement Monday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that New Jersey can implement legalized sports gaming:

“I’m absolutely thrilled.

“We always believed that the federal law was unconstitutional and unfair to New Jersey in particular. We can now look forward to the benefits of well-regulated, legal sports gaming in our state – and the benefits will be many.

“This is about jobs and economic development, and more jobs and more economic development. It’s about modernizing our gaming industry. It’s about bringing more people to Atlantic City. It’s about putting illegal sports gaming out of business. It’s about more revenue for our state budget and all the vital programs it pays for to help our families.

“I’ve been talking to my fellow legislative leaders and the governor’s office about the potential for this ruling and stand ready to take whatever action, if any, is necessary to implement legalized sports gaming in our state as soon as possible. This is nothing but good news for New Jersey. I’m excited at the potential benefits for our economy and our taxpayers.”
