Calabrese Statement on FY2020 Budget

Assembly Democrat Clinton Calabrese (D-Bergen, Passaic) issued the following statement regarding ongoing discussions of the FY2020 spending plan:

“In May, for the first time in over a decade, we received good news from the treasurer regarding the State’s revenue picture. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that revenue collections were significantly higher than expected.

“While I have always supported high earners paying their fair share, I understand that a millionaire’s tax will not be posted for a vote in the Assembly and if posted would have insufficient votes to pass. That’s why I am working with the Speaker and Democratic leadership to produce a responsible budget that meets the needs of our children, the elderly, the most vulnerable, and the working class of New Jersey.  I will support a budget that does not include a millionaire’s tax, if the budget adequately and appropriately addresses the needs of our residents.”
