(Trenton) – Assembly Democrat Ralph Caputo (D-Essex) issued the following statement in regards to the Governor’s decision to veto legislation (A-3476) he sponsored to pave the way for sports wagering at New Jersey’s casinos and racetracks:
“This is truly disappointing. Especially, since the referendum on this issue was approved statewide and received bipartisan support in the Legislature.
“It’s a blow to the residents who supported it and to the gaming industry. We are running out of options and ways to increase revenue.
“The legislation would have been a much needed shot in the arm for Atlantic City and our racetracks, in particular. This was a viable opportunity to increase revenue and help rejuvenate New Jersey’s casino industry and we didn’t take it.”
