Caride Statement on Wednesday School Funding Hearing

(HACKENSACK) – Assembly Education Chairwoman Marlene Caride (D-Passaic/Bergen) released the following statement after Wednesday’s Assembly Education Committee public hearing on school funding concerns:

“I want to thank everyone who testified. Their input was varied, smart and invaluable to our work going forward. The ideas and opinions are many, but everyone agrees the status quo must change. The current school funding system hasn’t worked, to the detriment of both children and taxpayers.
“Our next hearing will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Camden County Technical Schools’ Gloucester Twp. Campus. I urge residents from that part of the state to attend and provide their input as we move forward on this all-important issue.
“This much is clear – we need a new plan, and it won’t be the governor’s plan. The governor’s plan was unworkable and unfair, and yesterday’s court ruling sends a clear message to the governor that it will not prevail. It’s time for everyone to work together on a plan that helps and protects all children and taxpayers.”
