CHIVUKULA HOPES CHRISTIE’S ENERGY MASTER PLAN WILL LIVE UP TO ITS GOALS

Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, Chair of the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee, released the following statement today on the release of the Christie administration’s final Energy Master Plan:

“This plan is a mixed bag of sorts. While it outlines some well-intentioned goals, such as meeting our renewable energy target and lowering consumer utility rates, it remains to be seen if the administration will apply the necessary amount of ambition to achieve these goals.

“Although the plan maintains support for offshore wind development, it begs the question of when the administration will make this a reality. Last year, the Governor signed a law I sponsored along with Senator Smith but we have yet to see any tangible action taken to make it a reality.

“In many ways, this plan is flattering because it incorporates a lot of language from legislation we have passed or proposed, so essentially there is nothing all that new contained within it. Now it’s a matter of holding the administration’s feet to the fire to make sure they carry out these goals,” said Chivukula (D-Middlesex/Somerset).
