CHIVUKULA NAMED STATE ASSEMBLYMAN OF THE YEAR BY BIO NJ

State Assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula (D-Somerset) has been named “State Assemblyman of the Year” by BioNJ.

The group is dedicated to supporting its member companies in finding cures and enhancing lives through medications and therapies discovered and developed using biotechnology. BioNJ supports the principle of providing universal access to affordable, high quality health care to all citizens. It is the New Jersey chapter of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (Bio), the industry leading advocacy and support group.

“A robust biotech industry is vital for our continued growth and world leadership in pharmaceuticals, an industry that is the single-highest revenue generator for New Jersey,” Chivukula (D-Somerset). “As lawmakers, it is crucial that we support policies to advance research and discovery that saves and transform lives and also ensures the health of our pharmacuetical industry, the leading revenue provider for our state. I commend BioNJ for its effective advocacy and am humbled and honored to receive this award.”

Assemblyman Chivukula was honored at BioNJ’s annual dinner meeting on January 27, 2011, along with Senator Joe Kyrillos and U.S. Senator Bob Menendez.
