Following the passing of Maryland U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings on Thursday, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (both D-Middlesex) released the following joint statement:
“Today America lost a true statesman and a hero. No issue was too big or too small for Elijah Cummings. He fought tirelessly to uphold our ideals of truth, justice and equality for all. His advocacy for civil rights issues helped move our country forward and we will feel the impact of his work for generations to come. We will remember Elijah Cummings as the fearless leader he truly was.”
