COUGHLIN: CHRISTIE MUST UNDERSTAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

(WOODBRIDGE) — Assemblyman Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex), a member of the Assembly Labor Committee, released the following statement on Friday:

“Gov. Christie needs to understand that workforce development is economic development. We will never climb out of this global economic recession without a workforce educated and trained to fill the jobs of the 21st century.

“Cutting the InvestNJ program, for instance, impairs our ability to incentivize both hiring and capital improvements.

“Gov. Christie is also sending the wrong message to adults by cutting Adult Education funds. This program has a proven record for success, and these adults are those most hungry for greater economic opportunity. They deserve our support.

“Finally, if New Jersey is to climb out of this recession, New Jersey needs to build itself out. Gov. Christie is making a mistake in cutting $1.5 from the NJ Build program. We should be encouraging all segments of the population to find training and re-training in the construction industry for when the economy rebounds.”
