(TRENTON) — Woodbridge resident Craig J. Coughlin on Tuesday took his oath of office to represent the 19th Legislative District in the New Jersey General Assembly, vowing to be a dedicated advocate for working-class Middlesex County residents.
Coughlin was sworn-in during an afternoon ceremony at the War Memorial, across the street from the State House in Trenton. He is among five first-term Democrats to take their oaths at the start of the 214th Legislature.
“I am both blessed and humbled today,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “It is a great honor to serve my community as a member of this Legislature.”
Coughlin has served as a Municipal Court Judge in Edison for the last four years with prior service as both a Municipal Prosecutor and a Public Defender. He also has served as a member of the South Amboy City Council. He currently represents the South Amboy Redevelopment Agency and the Township of Woodbridge.
“Today the real work starts,” said Coughlin. “It starts for my home county and it starts for the state that we love. Today its time to get to work to make sure the voices of hard-working Middlesex County residents are heard loud and clear.”
The 19th District covers a portion of Middlesex County that includes the municipalities of Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy and Woodbridge.
