Coutinho: Amazon Agreement Means Jobs, Economic Growth & Fairness for N.J. Retailers

(TRENTON) – Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Chairman Albert Coutinho (D-Essex) released the following statement on Amazon.com’s decision to locate in New Jersey:

“I’m very pleased to see Amazon.com finally able to agree to locate here in New Jersey. This has been a long-time coming, and whether it comes from an agreement such as this or legislation doesn’t matter.
“What matters is the job creation and economic growth that will come with this enterprise. Just as importantly, Amazon’s decision to locate in New Jersey will mean fairness for New Jersey businesses that have been competing against Internet retailers on an uneven playing field.
“We welcome 1,500 permanent jobs, and I’ll note that these new jobs would stem through some of the most aggressive tax incentive programs in the country that I sponsored and pushed Amazon to consider.
“We need jobs, economic growth and a level playing field, and we get all three with this agreement.”
