Cryan: Republican Opposition to Banning Those on FBI’s Terrorist Watchlist from Obtaining Gun Permits is Flabbergasting

Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, a member of the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee, which is hearing a comprehensive list of anti-gun violence measures today, released the following statement on bill A-3687, which would prohibit a person named on the FBI’s consolidated Terrorist Watchlist from being issued either a firearm’s identification card or a permit to purchase a handgun:

‘I’ve heard a lot of different debate on New Jersey policy but never until today have I seen elected officials opposing something as basic as keeping guns out of the hands of those on the Terrorist Watchlist.

‘Keeping guns out the hands of those on the Terror Watchlist should be as basic as it gets. The opposition to this bill was flabbergasting.

‘Those who voted against this common sense bill today — or failed to take any stand by abstaining — have a lot of explaining to do to their constituents. They put the ability of those on the Terror Watchlist to arm themselves above common sense public safety,” said Cryan (D-Union).

Two Assembly Republican committee members voted against the bill and a third abstained.
