Cryan Statement on Christie’s Veto of Responsible Pension Bill

Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union) released the following statement on Gov. Christie’s veto of a bill (A-3110) he sponsored that would have prevented current and future administrations from trying to hijack the increased pension contributions made by public employees to offset the contributions owed by the state.

“It’s unfortunate that the Governor didn’t sign this bill into law.

“Our pension situation has become untenable, as evidenced by the record, eighth credit downgrade the Christie administration received yesterday.

“We cannot afford to continue short-changing hard-working public employees while the Governor blames them for our pension problems.

“This bill was sound fiscal policy that would have helped protect their retirements, as well as the interests of taxpayers as a whole.”
