(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Leader Joe Cryan (D-Union) released the following statement Friday mourning the loss of a Newark police officer who was shot while off-duty ordering a slice of pizza:
“This tragedy is a stark reminder that when you’re a police officer, neither a day nor a moment is routine.
“The police officers who protect our communities put themselves on the line each and every day. Their dedication in the face of such risk should always be commended and should never be forgotten.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the police officer’s family and friends and city of Newark and its police department, and we all must recommit ourselves to the shared goal of safer streets throughout our state.”
