Danielsen Hosts Annual Backpack Drive for Students in the 17th Legislative District

After the success of last year’s backpack drive in providing over 700 children with the essentials to begin the new school year, Assemblyman Joseph Danielsen (D-Middlesex, Somerset) will be hosting his back-to-school backpack drive again this year for the students of the 17th legislative district.

School supplies such as lined notebooks, rulers, scissors, pens, markers, and glue sticks are some of the requested items for local children. Backpacks and Number 2 pencils, in particular, are in high demand this year. The drive is currently underway, and will run until September 5. Donations can be dropped off at one of the following five locations – the District 17 legislative office as well as the North Brunswick, Franklin Township and Piscataway libraries (both branches).

In addition to school supplies, gift cards will also be accepted.

“It is vital for communities to support students and make an investment in their futures,” Danielsen said. “This backpack drive provides children with many of the necessary tools they need to succeed in school and in life.”

Local businesses, churches and individuals donated more than 750 backpacks during the 2018 drive that were then distributed to students throughout the district.

“It is my hope that there will be high levels of participation again from generous donors in our district,” said Danielsen. “The continued collective kindness and generosity shown by caring residents, businesses and social organizations brings unity to our communities that I am honored to represent.”
