DeANGELO KICKS OFF 8TH ANNUAL ‘PRINCESS PROM’ PROJECT TO PROVIDE YOUNG LADIES WITH FREE FORMAL DRESSES

Program Growth Opens Up More Opportunity to Provide Gowns for Formal Occasions

(HAMILTON TWP.) – Celebrating its 8th year helping families getting ready for prom season, Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo announced today the relaunch of the annual “Princess Prom Project,” which provides teenage girls with a special gown for a memorable night celebrated in their youth. The program, initiated by DeAngelo’s office in the spring of 2011, alleviates the financial worry that young ladies may face when shopping for their junior or senior high school prom or other formal celebrations.

“Over the last eight years, the generosity of individuals donating new or gently worn dresses to the Princess Prom Project has helped put smiles on faces of countless young ladies who have found the perfect dress for a special night,” said DeAngelo (D-Hamilton.). “Our dress room is bursting at the seams with beautiful dresses of all designs and sizes perfect for any youth formal occasion.

“Through collaboration with youth-service and community outreach agencies combined with local word of mouth, we are able to expand our program this year to young ladies attending not only the prom but other memorable formal events,” DeAngelo said.

Ladies looking for their formal dress browse through the large collection of dresses -provided at no cost to them — during a “shopping party” held at the 14th Legislative District Outreach Center located at 4621A Nottingham Way in Hamilton Township from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on the following dates: Tuesday, March 12, 2019; Thursday, March 28, 2019; Tuesday, April 9, 2019; Monday, April 15, 2019; Thursday, April 25, 2019; Thursday, May 2, 2019; Monday, May 21, 2019; and Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Families can also schedule an appointment by calling the 14th Legislative District Outreach office at (609) 631-7501.

“As a father of two daughters, I know how special these moments are in a teenage girl’s life. The Princess Prom Project continues to be a great avenue for families who want their daughters to have memorable evening that will last a lifetime without the burden of an overwhelming price tag,” DeAngelo added.

Individuals who would like to support the Princess Prom Project can do so by donating a formal or cocktail gown hanging in their closet that will not be used again. These dresses can be brought to the 14th Legislative District Outreach Center (located at the Shoppes at Nottingham Pointe) to include in the “dress collection.” Dresses that are in good condition and previously cleaned will be accepted regardless of their size. Gently worn or new accessories such as purses and jewelry are also accepted to help complete the perfect head-to-toe look.

The Princess Prom Project is open to high school girls who live in the 14th District and Mercer and Middlesex Counties.
