Eustace on Confirmation of Pruitt as EPA Chief

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-Bergen, Passaic) issued the following statement in regards to the recent confirmation of Scott Pruitt as the U.S. Environmental Chief:

“The confirmation of Scott Pruitt as the country’s new environmental chief is a step in the wrong direction and will impede any progress made over the last eight years to protect our nation and inform the public of the effects of climate change and other environmental issues.

“Without formal scientific or environmental training, Pruitt will not be able to lead this agency with the compassion, knowledge and experience necessary to navigate pressing issues such as climate change and preserving our environmental resources.

“The EPA commander in chief’s primary focus has always been, and should continue to be to protect residents of this country from threats to air, water, and health quality, not serving as an advocate for the interests of the very industry it is charged with regulating.

“If the recent media and new business blackout placed on EPA is sign of where the EPA is heading under this new administration, every citizen should be concerned about Scott Pruitt’s confirmation.”
