Eustace Statement on Atwood-Blauvelt Mansion

“Demolishing it simply would be a grave mistake.”

Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-Bergen/Passaic) issued the following statement on Thursday denouncing plans for the demolition of the Atwood-Blauvelt Mansion:

“The Blauvelt Mansion is an integral part of Oradell and Bergen County as a whole, valuable due to both its cultural significance and its aesthetic appeal. Demolishing it simply would be a grave mistake.

“The people of Oradell have made it clear that this location – which has historic designation – would serve the community best as a community center. CareOne’s plan to destroy this 19th century paragon unabashedly reneges on the company’s promise to preserve the mansion. Having repeatedly declined to meet with members of the Oradell Historic Committee, CareOne leaves no doubt about its disregard for the community upon which it seeks to infringe.

“Historic landmarks like the Blauvelt Mansion are defining characteristics in communities all across New Jersey. The Oradell community deserves to retain this essential piece of its heritage.”
