EVANS ORGANIZES LIVE STREAMING OF SUPREME COURT HEARING ON SCHOOL FUNDING FORMULA

Passaic Assemblywoman Encourages Residents to Attend

Assemblywoman Elease Evans will be hosting a live-streaming of the New Jersey Supreme Court’s hearing on the constitutionality of the state’s school funding formula in the Passaic County Freeholder’s conference room beginning at 10 am, Wednesday, January 5, 2011.

Evans organized the viewing in conjunction with Passaic County Superior Court Acting Assignment Judge Thomas S. Brogan and Assignment Judge Donald J. Volkert as a way to encourage the community’s participation in this critical Supreme Court decision.

“I encourage everyone who is available to come out and join us as the Supreme Court hearing gets underway,” said Evans (D-Bergen/Passaic). “The way in which our school funding gets distributed means the difference between a shot at a quality education for countless students or a lifetime of lost opportunities. It’s important that residents remain actively engaged in this process to ensure that their communities are being treated fairly. By viewing it together, we can discuss the merits of the trial as they develop and actively foster a better understanding of the way in which New Jersey distributes school funding.”

Evans has extended invitations to community leaders, clergy, parents, community organizations, school boards, and local elected officials. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

The screening will take place at the Passaic County Administration Building, Freeholder’s Conference Room, 2nd floor, 401 Grand Street, Paterson.
