EVANS: REPUBLICANS PROTECT MILLIONAIRES WHILE INCREASING TAXES ON THE WORKING POOR

(TRENTON) — Assemblywoman Elease Evans (D-Passaic/Bergen) released the following statement Monday on Republican approval of legislation (A-3016) to increase income taxes on working poor New Jerseyans by reducing the Earned Income Tax Credit:

“It’s hard to fathom how anyone would support tax cuts for millionaires, then vote just one week later to increase income tax on working poor New Jerseyans, but that is indeed what Republicans just did.

“This is a particularly nasty tax increase. It is without question, an attack on those working each and every day to lift themselves out of poverty.

“In my mind, it’s impossible to justify giving millionaires a tax cut while hiking income taxes on the working poor.

“This Republican tax increase marks a sad day for New Jersey.”
